G31 Installation

Postby dallas2323 » Sat May 13, 2023 11:16 pm

Hello,

I've opened the disk image from the download links provided, but there is no "installation" that is triggered. I am able to open the package contents and assume I am supposed to place these files somewhere but i don't know where. Can you please provide guidance?

Hello,

Thank you for using Modern G-31!

Currently Modern G-31 is not compatible with native Apple silicon. The plugin and the installer require to be launched in Rosetta mode.
To install Modern G-31 on Apple silicon devices, please right-click on the installer > select "Get Info" > check "Open using Rosetta" under "General" tab. Then the installation process will be ready to start.

We apologize for the inconvenience. Hope you like Modern G-31.

Does that mean that there will be a version with native Apple Silicon support at some point?

While it does work to run G31 under Rosetta on a silicon Mac, the Logic Pro 11.0 DAW hangs if you try and save a G31 setting as a preset using Logic's own AU wrapper mechanism.

But the fact that it runs under Rosetta on arm64 makes me wonder if it would compile with perhaps only some minimum effort, e.g., using Xcode to target arm64, i.e. it does not use Intel specific AVX, etc. instructions. It is too bad it does not run native as sonically we have found it to be better than Waves G30, Newfangled Equivocate or any other graphic equalizer plugin we have tried.

For sure, we're 4 years into Apple silicon. And the OS won't support x86 code for much longer, I would guess. This plugin is really something I'd like to use but I swore off getting non-silicon plugins about 2 and a half years ago.
